Sheriff John Henry Woodward reported that there was a burglary at the Rappahannock, County Elementary School, apparently on the night of Dec. 19. On Monday Dec. 20 the sheriffs department was called to investigate.
Sheriff Woodward reported that a Fisher brand VCR, a combination TV and VCR, and a Realistic AMFM radio and CD player were taken from the school library. The total value was estimated at $1,035.
The burglars apparently entered through the window of one of the front classrooms, entered the main hall and, from there, entered the courtyard. From the courtyard they were able to gain entrance to the library.
Sheriff Woodward reported that the investigation is continuing with no firm leads.
Last Wednesday thieves took a refrigerator and microwave from a house owned by Cathy Smith in Amissville. The house was unlocked because it was undergoing repairs, Sheriff Woodward said.
Another burglary with forced entry occurred Friday night. A teak table valued at $800 was taken from the home of Bill Monroe on Route 637. A neighbor who was hunting with permission on the property noticed that there had been a forced entry and reported it to the sheriffs office. Sheriff Woodward said Mr. Monroe had not yet returned to the county to check and see if anything else is missing.
