Soil surveys contain information that can be applied in managing farms and woodlands, in selecting sites for roads, ponds, buildings, and other structures, and in judging the suitability of tracts of land for farming, industry and recreation.
“It’s difficult to run a farm, build a housing development, or pave a highway without knowing something about soils,” states John Jeffries of the Soil Conservation Service.
