Eight person died in motor vehicle crashes over the Christmas holiday weekend, according to' preliminary State Police statistics. The 78-hour statistical reporting pe-» riod began at 6 p.m. on Dec. 23 and ’ ended at midnight Dec. 26.
Of the eight fatal crashes, only ’, one occured on the state’s interstate highway system; two of the fatal, crashes occured on city streets and the remainder on roads in counties. Fatality victims ranged in age from 30 to 77 years old and most were not; wearing safety belts. Three of the . victims were pedestrians. None of the crashes were determined to be alcohol-related, although this factor was listed as unknown in two of the crashes.
“With the New Year’s holiday approaching, I’d like to remind all driver to exercise extra courtesy and extra caution while on the road. I’d also suggest some lifesaving resolutions for the upcoming year: Resolve not to drink and drive; resolve to obey all traffic laws and resolve to buckle-up before the car moves," Col. Baker said.
