This is 97 percent of the $205,000 goal, and a record amount for the local United Way.

“Over 145 volunteers approached the campaign with the spirit of teamwork and together we made it happen, said John Garber, Jr., Campaign Chairperson. We are thankful to the entire community, both businesses and individuals, who responded to our call in a fashion that will enable us to meet some of the health and human needs in our communities.”

Betty Roberts, Executive Director stated, “This was a very challenging year. The needs are greater, there are more working poor, people needing food and shelter, the basics. Finding volunteers was extermely difficult. But, Mr. Garber was determine to bring together a team of car£; ing people willing to increase the1* organized capacity of people in our communities to care for one another. Z

“Because of that determination, 7 more people are aware of the Pied-; mont United Way, our mission and why it is so important to donate to an organization that reaches five counties through twenty-four member agencies and makes a positive difference in so many lives. To this end, I believe we were successful.”
