uaroiyn r rencn is a descendant of an old family in Orange County, where the Frenches now live on family property in Barboursville. Mrs. French will begin the program with the story of survival and societal participation of a black family from slavery times to the present.
Dr. French will follow with the story of his efforts to make a contribution to the status of minorities and the disadvantaged at home and abroad.
An alumna of Mt. Holyoke College, Mrs. French’s field is early childhood education. Her mother was the founder and director of the second oldest preschool in the District of Columbia. Mrs. French taught in her mother’s school and in public schools in the District of Columbia.
From there the Frenches went to Boston where Mrs. French founded and directed a preschool called Crispus Attucks, named for an African American who was the first person to lose his life in the Revoluntionary War.
During their stay in West Africa, Mrs. French served on the board of the American school in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
