Our Governor George Allen has been spending too much time at Disneyland. Gov. Allen would have ua believe that our tax burden is onerous and murderers are on the loose.
According to a Jan. 23 article In the Washington Post Metro section, Virginia is among the most lightly taxed states in the nation. Our crime rate is also below the national average, while our percentage of imprisoned criminals is high.
The great irony is that, at the same time he tells us we’re paying too much in taxes, he’s ready to give his corporate Mends at Disney a free ride. We’ll pay for the roads, the water and sewer, the schools and other services, as well as kick in some advertising money. Then, instead of training our youth for health care, biotechnology or other rewarding careers, we’ll pay to teach them how to punch tickets, for minimum wage, at Disneyland. What a deal.
When Disney does start building, I’m sure that Allen’s Secretary of Natural Resources, Becky Dunlop, will be keeping close watch. Fat
