At the end of 1988, Dr. FrenclT joined Helen Keller International as. medical director. Under Dr!; French’s leadership, Helen Keller International developed expertise in* primary eye care in the developing, world, correction of cataract blind* ness, and River Blindness.
Before joining the Helen Keller International after returning from Africa, Dr. French was involved ill early work to establish a Statewide Area Health Education Center pro-" gram in Virginia. This program was officially established in Virginia in 1991, and Dr. French became statewide director in 1992.
