Culpeper County line was renamed Doc’s Road to match its name in Culpeper County. The section from Route 642 to Route 729 was to remain Forest Grove Road.
When the people who don’t want to live on a road called Doc’s Road brought a petition to the July meeting, the board decided to table the issue until the August meeting.
That brought the fans of the name Poe’s Road out to Monday’s meeting. Hampton District representative Mike Massie made a motion that the board hold no more hearings and stick with the names as they currently are. Chairman Hubert Gilkey joined Mr. Massie in voting for this motion, but it failed 1 when Jackson District representative Ellis Bingham and Stonewall Hawthorn District representative Robert Anderson, followed slowly by Piedmont District representative Charles K. “Pete” Estes, voted against it.
The supervisors asked County Administrator John McCarthy if they could hold hearings only on the two roads with names have been publicly challenged, and Mr. McCarthy said they could.
However, Mr. Gilkey said he could not go along with that because he knew of at least one other road in his district with people who want to change the name.
So Mr. Massie made the motion to open up the whole issue of road names again with a hearing set October 3, and that motion passed unanimously.
The supervisors received a letter from Richard L. Biby, an engineer who has a business in Falls Church but owns property in the county, offering to seek a location for Cellular
