MARY WILLIAMS, WILLIAMS ORCHARD. Mrs. Williams also lives on Route 729 in Flint Hill, on the left just before Mr. Sutphin’s house. All of the produce she sells comes out of her well-tended garden in the side yard. Call Mrs. Williams at 675-3765 to make sure she will be home before you visit.

Vegetables Available: Tomatoes (lots!), green beans, peppers, cucumbers, zucchini and yellow squashes, beets. Lima beans will be ready in about two weeks.

In Sperryville, there are at least seven vegetable stands between Country Manor and the Exxon station, selling various kinds of local produce. Other outlets are country stores and Mountainside Market in Washington.

Louis Moore, Sr. at Moore’s Orchards in Flint Hill, reports that he will have Silver Queen com a little later in the summer.

Two of the farmers have graciously shared recipes which take advantage of summer’s bounty.

MARY WILLIAMS’ PASTA

SALAD

3 cups cooked shell macaroni

2 medium tomatoes, chopped

1 medium onion, chopped * 2 hard-boiled eggs, chopped

1 medium green pepper, chopped

1/2 cup celery, chopped

1/2 cup sweet relish (chow-chow is good)

1/4 cup reduced-calorie mayonnaise

Salt and pepper to taste

Combine all ingredients together in a large bowl. Serve on lettuce leaves with crackers on the side.
