Because there is only one elementary school physical education teacher who does none of the high school coaching, “People have been asked to coach things they don’t have the experience for. That’s not fair to the kids,” he said. “That goes back to the athletic director who is thrown into the position where he’s just got to fill a slot.
“The answer we get is that we have to hire teachers first and put coaching second. I’m somewhat burned out,” he said. “We don’t have enough teachers who are qualified. Athletics is an important part of school and the administration needs to respect that.”
