“I don’t think one person should have to do more than one varsity sport," Mr. Leake said. “I’ve done as many as three. This year I coached three teams in six months; that’s not even healthy. I applied for one of these positions and was talked into the other two.”
“I have a lot to give,” Mrs. Leake said. “But I was spread too thin I didn’t have enough energy.”
They see the problem coming from a variety of places, starting with combining the high school athletic director’s position with that of assistant principal. Several of the people who have held the position have gone on to become principals here or elsewhere, Mr. Leake noted. “The position has become a stepping stone to a principalship,” he said.
He added in the Bull Run District none of the other athletic directors are also assistant principals, and most have been in the position for years. They are
