The performace of both the archer and his handmade equipment was put to the test in the long distance shooting competition. An erratic breeze added to the difficulty as each bowman took his turn at the line.
Despite the meterorological meddling, several scouts sent their arrows flying sixty feet and more. Placing first in the long distance event were Jamie Dwyer, Max Haynes, Daniel Pierson, Jeffrey Scorggins and Philip Thomas.
The most demanding contest of the day was the accuracy competition. Plywood panels with “portraits” of turkeys served as targets with the scout hitting closest to the center mark winning.
Practice paid off for the first place archer in each den who was awarded a gift certificate from the Giant Food store in Warrenton. These certificates will give the scouts a chance to make a special contribution to their families’ Thanksgiving feasts. Earning first ? place in the “Turkey Shoot” competition were Matthew Elliot, Tymeyer Freeman, Henry Robertson, Joey Pullen and Philip Thomas.
