Outgoing librarian Nikki Lynch reported she received a check from Delegate Jay Katzen to be used to buy a present for the library before she leaves.
Newly hired librarian Patty Holmes said there are seventeen applicants for the children’s librarian position, and seven are very qualified.
Speaking for the Finance Committee, board member John Hartline reported the library has received a $20,852 bequest from the Lane estate, and the committee wants to invest that money to the best advantage. He said they could get 8.24 percent on a 10 year U.S. Treasury bond, and that is what the committee recommended.
Frank Warner said the building and grounds committee has chosen a bike rack for the library. The Friends of the Library will pay for it.
The State of Virginia is giving employees off for Thanksgiving, starting noon on Wednesday. The library, however, will be open until its usual closing time of 8 p.m. on Wednesday, and will be open the day after Thanksgiving.
