Mr. Kemper will offer his best “ho ho hos” for children who attend the fire department’s Breakfast With Santa fundraiser from 8 a.m. to noon on Dec. 4.
He says that he has been donning a Santa suit for 18 years. “The first time 1 played Santa,” he remembers, “we just wanted to have some fun. I dressed up and we rode one of the trucks through the Jamesway parking lot while I waved to the kids. It was great”
Since then, Mr. Kemper has played his favorite role for the fire department, the Fauquier Department of Parks and Recreation,and a local department store.
He says he has a perfect record. “They may cry some at first but I can always get them to talk to me a little. I laugh with them, talk to them, sometimes even tickle them. Up until last year, I could fool my eightyear-old daughter Beth. Now she knows I’m not the real Santa.”
Mr. Kemper’s 10-year-old son William also has caught on to the act. But 6-monthold John, Lisa and John Kemper’s youngest, still looks at his dad with the wide eyes of a believer.
