employees’ contribution to the retirement fund. Employees had been contributing 5 percent. This was done during ai year in which no raises w^re given and it had the effect of increasing employees paychecks by 5 percent without costing the county a like amount, because the employer’s contribution was reduced that year.
Mr. McCarthy said the county could take the step of again requiring employees to contribute their share.
E-911
Sheriff John Henry Woodward reported that the Enhanced 911 system will be turned oh for 675 and 987 exchanges November 15. Customers with 636 and 635 exchanges will be turned on December 5. Rappahannock residents with 937, 547, and 543 exchanges will still not be turned on because Bell Atlantic says that must wait until Culpeper County implements its E-911 system. When residents with those numbers call 911 they are connected to the dispatch center in Culpeper, which can route the call back to Rappahannock.
Col. Bingham, whose district includes many of the people with 937 numbers, said, “This is ludicrous.”
Mr. McCarthy agreed.
Mr. McCarthy reported the county has still not received approval from the state to open the new cell at the landfill, but he said the scale was installed and working.
Sheriffs Cars
Sheriff Woodward ksked the supervisors to authorize him to order two new cars that would normally have been ordered in the spring so they would be delivered at the start of the next fiscal year. He said he was not at all certain the large police cars with V-8 engines and rear wheel drive would be available in spring. He said the last date to order the cars and be
