Krebser asked if a high berm on Route 662 where it enters U.S. 522 could be removed to improve site distance. He also suggested putting in a culvert on the road about .25 mile from the intersection.
Mr. Moore reported he is having problems keeping up with repair needs of bridges on secondary roads using only maintenance money. He said the supervisors should consider using some road improvement funds for these repairs. This has presented a problem with some school bus routes, he said, when the bridges had to be posted for lower weight limits than the weight of a full school bus.
At a School Board meeting earlier this year, David Smith, the director of transportation reported that one route had been changed to cross a bridge after most students had been dropped off in the afternoon or before they were picked up in the morning to get under the weight limits of the bridge. In other cases emergency repairs were made to bridges to allow the buses to cross, he reported.
One resident asked VDOT to pay more attention to trees along the roads. He said one recently fell and smashed the front of a car.
Mr. Massie said VDOT should not get involved in taking down too nany trees since that has caused more complaints than anything else since he first went on the board. “Try to leave the canopy effect up high with live green trees,” he said.
Mr. Moore reported VDOT is collecting information on errors on signs installed for E-911. He said correct signs will be installed.
