sure of getting the full size was this Wednesday. After that police cars may only be available in V-6 models with front wheel drive such as Chevy Lumina and Ford Taurus.
The supervisors decided not to order the cars now and to consider switching to the front-wheel drive cars.
Park Donation
The supervisors were notified that landowners, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Redford, are negotiating with the Shenandoah National Park to donate to the park 93 acres of adjacent land, reserving lifetime tenancy for themselves and their three grown children.
The supervisors were concerned that the county could be required to provide services to residents of the land without receiving any taxes on it once it was donated. Kevin McMurry from the National Park Service will attend the December meeting to discuss this proposal.
Secondary Roads
During the evening meeting the supervisors held a public hearing on the county’s secondary roads. Residents along Route 620 between Five Forks and the dead end again asked that improvements to their road be included in the six-year plan. Stonewall-Hawthorn District representative Robert Anderson supported their request. He also suggested improvements to Castleton View Road, Route 616 be added to the sixyear plan.
Col. Bingham asked to have Route 616 in Jackson District between 642 and U.S. 211 improved where there is a steep dip with dropoffs on both sides. Robert Moore, resident engineer reported that VDOT was already negotiating with landowners to fix that problem.
