A cellular phone was reported missing from an unlocked vehicle owned by Benji Atkins of Chester Gap which was parked at Massie’s Comer last Saturday. Sheriff Settle said there are no leads in the case.
Two chimney fires happened the day after Thanksgiving.
In the wee hours of that morning, Charles Francis of Route 614 in Gid Brown Hollow called and said that he woke to a house full of smoke and thought the chimney was on fire. Firefighters found that was the case, and were able to extinguish the fire with just minor damage to the log home.
That night, a fire broke out at a house rented by Ellen Berg on Route 638 in.Flint Hill. She complained that smoke was backing up in her house and there was a chimney fire. Sheriff Settle said the report does not indicate that the house was damaged by the fire.
