The Class of 1986 did very well in the Eighth Annual Alumni Basketball Tournament as Tommy Jenkins was named Most Valuable Men's Player and Karen Jordan was named Most Valuable Women’s Player.
The men's Blue Team coached by Paul Hitt prevailed over the White Team coached by Walter Frye 84-81 and the women's Blue Team coached by Connie Compton prevailed over the White Team coached by Rhonda Jenkins 2621.
Semi final action got underway Friday evening with the White Team made up of Clarence Pendleton, Walter Frye, Eric Dunn, James Roy, Marley Hay, Carroll Frye and Arathon Aylor jumping out to an early 10-2 lead over the Green Team coached by Gary Settle and including Kenny Baldwin, Jon Butler, Jason Carter, Steve Leake, Richie Lillard, Bill Settle, Carroll Ray Settle, Robbie Settle, Johnnie Smith and Jamie Walters.
The White team had a 45-27 lead at halftime. In the fourth quarter the Green Team started pulling even and was down only 77-73 with 22 seconds to go, but the White Team added two more points for a 79-73 win.
Clarence Pendleton had 31 points in the team’s winning effort. Walter Frye added 18 and James Roy 11. For the losing Green Team, Gary Settle had 14 points, and Jason Carter and Kenny Baldwin had 13 each.
