The results of these and similar polls show the marjority of the citizens of the Commonwealth favor regulations of tobacco products, particularly in the area of availability to children.
We were disappointed to see that the Commonwealth of Virginia is going to join No/th Carolina and Kentucky in the filling of a friend-ofthe-court brief against the FDA concerning the regulation of tobacco sales aimed at curbing youth smoking. If indeed the industry is in favor of regulations discouraging youth access to tobacco and the majority of the citizens of the Commonwealth are in favor of such regulation, we would hope that Virginia, instead of suing the FDA, would work with the orgnization to bring about a prohibition of underage access to tobacco products. To date no one in Virginia has been prosecuted or fined for selling tobacco products to minors.
