Alumni Tournament
The success of adding women’s competition to the annual Alumni Basketball Tournament was gratifying. It should be noted that the difference between the scores is only partly because women score less. Their quarters were only eight minutes long versus 12 minutes for the men.
This annual Thanksgiving weekend event has truly become RCHS’s Homecoming. Perhaps in the absence of a football team the high school and athletic department should consider building Homecoming around this event keeping it at Thanksgiving.
The continued support for the Alumni Tournament by Shenandoah Moters and now Marathon Bank has also contributed greatly to the success of the event. With these organizations sponsoring the tournament in providing trophies and T-shirts, player entry fees and gate receipts can go to help out the underfunded athletic department.
