A spokesman from the Soil and Water Conversation District, Mr. Beals, explained that no one (farmers, local governments) will be convinced they are doing any harm unless they have real data to look at.
More technical assistance and more money are needed to allow people from the Soil and Water Conservation District to work with local governments, said Del. Murphy. "We need to spend money on natural resources. Where can we get the money," he asked, adding that "Funding will be a major issue."
At the end of the meeting, a resolution was passed by the commission to recommend to the Virginia General Assembly that the study commission be continued. In part, the resolution said that the panel "examined, discussed and compiled information on a wide variety of topics,” including laws affecting the river and the growth and demographics of the region.
