Sculptor Charles Flickinger says about Rappahannock, "The creative community here is vgry vibrant. It is very rare to find a place where there is so much going on in the creative world."
He moved here two years ago to a rambling farmhouse in Woodville and has made fast friends with members of the local art community. Known as "Flick""'to his friends, he is a sculptor who works with many mediums. Right now he is especially interested in sculpting wood, and is always on the lookout for interesting pieces whicli he may find alongside a river or a road.
Many local people may have seen his extraordinary wood and Fiberglas sculpture of a woman playing a fiddle, entitled "Bloodroot," at the Glassworks Gallery in Sperryville. Mr. Flickinger said die piece is mainly about springtime and was carved from a limb off of an apple tree at the Gesundheit Institute in West Virginia, where he lived for a short while. The free is in a beautiful spot, within earshot of a waterfall, and marriages have taken place under the tree.
