Bread making is definitely an art even if you own a bread machine. The way that some people can make the perfect biscuit, excellent batch of rolls or the just right size loaf bread amazes me. Miss Mary Miller Wood of Washington deserves the award for ■Best Biscuit Maker." She shared her recipe with me and also for the Rappahannock News readers. Everytime, her Angel Biscuits are perfect. Her only advice was "just to continue to practice."

Angel Biscuits

4 cups of flour (I use "Better for Bread" flour which is put out by Gold Medal in a yellow box.)

1/4 cup sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon soda , 2 teaspoons baking powder

3/4 cup shortening. (I use Crisco)

Mix above ingredients together. ' Mix 1 teaspoon sugar, 2 tablespoons warm water, and 1 package of dry yeast. After yeast is dissolved mix with 1 1/2 cups of buttermilk. Then mix buttermilk and dry ingredients. Roll out to desired size. Brush with melted margarine. Bake at 450 degress until brown.
