Rappahannock s foundation was started by citizens and intends to remain independent of the School Board and school administration. However, the new foundation will be working with the School Board and administration on plans to bring improvements to the schools.
Mrs. Treanor said the purpose of the new organization is "to make Rappahannock schools the best in the state. That's not an undoable goal."
Mrs. Dietel has experience on the board of the Child Care and Learning Center and on the board of Lord Fairfax Community College. "I've done a lot of work with boards, but I've never started a board before,” she said, adding that the first few months of the organization's existence will be a learning experience for everyone involved.
The board delayed making a decision on "ex-officio” (or non-voting) members of the board which may include school administrators and/or School Board members. The organization intends to hire\a parttime staff person as "executive director" who will be an "ex-officio" member of the board. >
"We're new and we're finding our way," Mrs. Dietel said. The group plans a get-acquainted meeting with the School Board for early February with regular monthly meetings the fourth Monday of each month.
