Virginia's position on the matter dates to 1979, when the state passed a law to block punishment of individuals who possessed marijuana as long as they had a prescription from their doctor.
But Del. Bob Marshall (RPrince William) has announced a crusade to repeal the Virginia's law.
Marshall's bill would make it criminal for doctors to prescribe marijuana. He cites evidence that marijuana has no medical utility and can produce physical and psychological dependence.
Del. Jay Katzen (R-Fauquier) is also preparing repeal legislation. "We’re getting marijuana out of the medicine cabinet,” he said.
