She is a person that took the unofficial challenge from her brother, Brandon, who happens to be one of the top-rated wrestlers in the 103pound weight class in Virginia.
"We had a weak spot at If2,” related Steele, "And her brother said, 'You oughta have my sister try out, she's really good, she can beat me,' and I said, 'Right, Brandon. How is it your sister beats you?'"
Kandice said she can beat her brother, although she does acknowledge that she, "bends the rules a little." But she has had no prior formal wrestling training and no little league wrestling experience.
”1 more or less auditioned her, kicked everyone out of the room, and we put one kid in and wrestled her, just to see what her instincts were," continued Steele.
And after watching this untrained unknown take his guy down a few times, putting him on his back once, Steele was impressed.
"I said, 'Hell, she didn't know what she was doing, but by using her instincts, determination, strength, and physical ability, she was obviously good enough.'"
"She said to me," continued Steele, "'If you don't want a girl on the team, that's too bad because if I'm coming out, I'm staying.'
