The new board approved a mission stating, 'The Rappahannock County Public Education Foundation exists to foster educational excellence by cultivating the cooperative spirit and resources of the whole community to benefit all students."
Linda Dietel was selected president pro tern; Kathryn Treanor is secretary pro tern; Paul Gall is vice president pro tern, and Barney O’Meara is treasurer pro tern. The group will select officers for the next fiscal year in July. There is currently a 15-member Board of Directors. Other board members are Beverly Massie, Douglas Baumgardner, Margaret Rogers, Phillip Bailey, Cynthia Wayland, Lois Manookian, Jeff Brown, Carol Johnson, Dorothy Butler, Brion Patterson, and Sharon Kilpatrick.
Articles of incorporation were approved. Mr. Baumgardner will submit them to the State Corporation Commission. Once the organization has its charter from the SCC, Mr. Baumgardner will apply to the IRS for approval as a tax exempt charitable organization. He said it could take several months for that to be approved.
