he teaches and is a really good communicator. Also, he is easily able to handle all levels of ability within one class. r,
Mr. Flickinger loves teaching, and hopes to get enough teaching jobs out here so that he will not have to commute so much. "I like being able to work a garden and have quiet at night," he said, adding that he is trying to build a life away from the city and still do the things he likes to do.
He recently took a studio space at Glassworks Gallery, in the little building out front, and has started working on a figure piece using large pieces of driftwood. Before making dramatic changes to the piece, he really thinks first about what he wants it to look like, and may do some sketches.
Mr. Flickinger says that most of his pieces have a "life and death" thing going on. His figures suggest something instead of saying just what it is. "I like to create objects that can be interpreted a lot of different ways. What is underneath is important and what is on the surface is important," he said.
He enjoys making art that can instantly grab the viewer, so that people who are not necessarily interested in art can find something in it too. He said he likes to have that payoff for
