This is the second time Mr. Cameron has been the beneficiary of labor provided by WorkCamp programs. Last year, he got his floor replaced and tiled. “It’s truly hard not to believe in God when you see all these kids helping out to get me mobile,” he said.
Father Chuck McCoart, the director of youth activities for the Catholic Diocese of Arlington, said he was proud to be associated with all the volunteers. Over 5,000 volunteer hours in four days time is a remarkable feat.
But those are just figures, it’s the experience which means so much more to these young people than what we see on paper. The physical, tangible feat they accomplish is nothing compared to the spiritual boost they get. They say unlike the length of a board, or an amount of money spent, it’s too great — it can’t be measured.
“We all get closer and closer to God and we gain a much clearer understanding of just what his message is to us all,” one of them said, which seemed to sum it up for them all.
Their message is exciting and inspirational. How many of us would pay $250 and put in the time they did to help others just for the pure satisfaction of doing so?
