Several times during
this past year the RCHS Attendance Policy has been discussed in these pages. Where did this policy come from, how did it go this year, what is its future?
Since the early 1990’s RCHS teachers have been concerned about the drain on academic excellence caused by poor attendance. The problem is not just what happens to the individual absent student, but what happens to the standard of the whole class, which does not progress at as high a level or as rapidly. In the Spring of 1993 a faculty committee developed several proposals, which did not go forward.
Subsequently statewide attention in the form of an article in the Richmond Times Dispatch focused on Rappahannock’s poor attendance. Soon a new
