Forty winks
results in arrest

Rappahannock Sheriffs Office personnel arrested a man on Aug. 5 after identifying him as having an outstanding warrant in Fairfax County.
Lewis Alexander French, 43, of Fauquier County, was sleeping in his car on Gay Street on the morning of Aug. 5. He stayed there so long he drew the attention of police personnel, said Major Rick MacWelch of the Sheriffs Office.
They checked out his license as a routine procedure and found he was wanted for assault and battery in Fairfax. They then arrested him and notified Fairfax.
After the arrest his car was impounded and inventoried his car, also as part of the routine procedure. During the inventory the deputies found what appeared to be marijuana in his car.
They called the State Police who sent Trooper D.D. King, of Fredericksburg, with her narcotics canine over to the county to further investigate the car. They also gained consent to search the vehicle for additional evidence.
The dog did alert for narcotics, but no further drugs were found after the marijuana was removed. *
