1 nave to say though that 1 was rather saddened by Mr. Ralls’ experience. I really had thought things had changed sufficiently that such would not have happened. I know of course of the tidal wave of new people, new ideas, and so forth that has transformed Rappahannock over the last 25 years or so, making it so different from the isolated rural community where I grew up (and from which I was so eager to leave).

A couple years ago on the occasion of my 30th anniversary of graduating from Rappahannock County High, I decided to purchase a copy of the 1995 yearbook. One thing that struck me were the changes Of the names in the county, of the multiracial makeup of the school, even international students.

I saw photos of multi-racial groups of students captioned “Best Buds.” There was a picture of a black Prom King and a white Prom Queen. That
