involved in the agricultural industry, it should, by no means, be the central argument in a letter which was apparently written to insult the Rappahannock News.
However, when the typical Rappahannock citizen was described (a flannel shirt, jeans and workboots) it created a stereotype for the other 6,000 or more people that live in our community. This county has other residents who require professional attire.
I believe that a person should take great pride in the area in which they live. This means supporting, or helping to improve, their town in order for it to grow and prosper. When a member of our community writes a letter that seems to be directed more toward slandering than criticizing, I would have to say that a certain amount of respect is lost.
I am jarred and disappointed to know that something like this could happen.1
If an item of news, old or new, is good enough for a national publication such as People Magazine, then it is certainly good enough to be publicized in our own community’s paper. After all, the subject of the article does reside in Rappahannock County.
