Once again the Madison Chamber of Commerce will sponsor their annual Taste of the Mountain Main Street Festival on Saturday, Aug. 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Each year the Festival has grown and visitors return, increasing in number. Preparations have been in progress for months; this year’s Festival promises to be bigger and better than ever.
In keeping with Madison’s Heritage Theme there will be many new artists and craftspeople along with those who participated in the past, some of whom will demonstrate their creativity with their wares. Antique collectors may find the treasure they have been looking for and the various exhibits will be of interest plus informative.
Live entertainment will be presented all day at spots along the street where you can stop, rest and enjoy the music. Children will find On The Wild Side Petting Zoo, Pony Rides, Sand Art, games and special entertainment to their liking. Young and old will want to stop and speak to the Historical Figures strolling the street.
A confederate Infantry Unit will be found on the grounds of the Kemper Residence where, through out the weekend, reenactments and demonstrations will depict camp life during the Civil War.
The event would not be complete without the mouth watering food and drink prepared by the people of Madison, noted for their country fare. From one end of the street to the other you will find chicken, ham biscuits, steaks, bison, lamb burgers and everything, in between including home baked goods.
There is no admission fee, with free parking at the high school on Route 29 with many shuttle buses for your convenience. Mark your calendar, Aug. 30, for this memorable event.
