Adult classes offered
Adult education classes are being offered by the Rappahannock County Public Schools for the Fall 1997 session. Classes will be taught by professional teachers, trade employees, and/or persons familiar with the subject being taught. Dadline for fall enrollment is Sept. 5. Cattle program scheduled
A Virginia. Quality Assured Feeder Cattle program will be held at 6 p.m. on Aug. 26 at the Washington fire department. Registration will begin at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:15 and four speakers throughout the evening. The program is coordinated and sponsored by the Rappahannock Farmers’Association, Virginia Cooperative Extension, and Bayer Corporation. The barbecue dinner is provided by Gerald Good Bayer Agriculture Division.
Fall practice to begin

Fargo to be shown
The Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community (RAAC) will present the award-winning film, “Fargo”, at The Theatre on Gay Street, Washington, on Friday, Aug. 15 at 8 p.m.
Before the flood in Fargo, North Dakota, there was “Fargo”, the movie, that won two Academy Awards (Actress and Original Screenplay) and was nominated in four more categories (Best Picture, Director, Cinematography and Film Editing). (R, 97 minutes).
Free Herbal Consultation

Fundraiser rescheduled
The annual meeting and fund-raiser of the Rappahannock County Historical Society has been rescheduled to Saturday, Sept. 6 at 6:30 p.m. It will be held at the home of the society’s president Doug Baumgardner.
Bowen-Bolen reunion set
The annual Bowen-Bolen family reunion will be held Saturday, Aug. 16 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Rappahannock Park Pavilion. All attending are asked to bring a covered dish and drink to share. For further information contact Dorothy K. McWaters or W.F. Baldwin.
PTO meeting scheduled
The Rappahannock County Elementary School’s first PTO meeting for the 1997-98 school year will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14 in the RCES library. Principal Raye Tupper and Assistant-Principal Richard Smith will be there to speak and answer any questions you may have. All parents of RCES students are encouraged to attend.
Ceremony planned
The Washington Volunteer Fire Department plans a commissioning ceremony of its brand new pumper fire truck on Sunday, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m. This occasion is particularly noteworthy because this truck represents the first new piece of fire apparatus in the past 50 years. Drinks and light snacks will be provided along with demonstrations of the Department’s various pieces of equipment. The public is cordially invited.
Video show scheduled
The last Friday-of-the-month video show will be held Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Rappahannock Healing Arts in Sperryville. Come dance or just enjoy the show, Gabrielle Roth/The Wave. Cost is $3. “We’ve got air-conditioning, popcorn and a great space,” said an organizer.
Art exhibit in the nest
Dulaney Hollow Bed and Breakfast and Antiques cordially invites you to the opening reception presenting the Monotypes of the Blue Ridge by Tucker Hill and Chinese Brush Paintings — “Flower & Bird” by Charlene M. Family reunion planned
It’s that time again the family of the late Henry T. Thorton and Lillie M. Cloud Thorton will hold their reunion at the Rappahannock Park on Saturday, Sept. 6. “Family and friends are invited, come bring a covered dish and join in,” said a family member.
