Mrs. McCarthy says Valley of Virginia pieces are “hand-made and primitive. Someone has looked at a Philadelphia piece and tried to replicate it. They come from a lot of farms in the area. I have a seat reserved for me in an auction house in the Shenandoah Valley and, short of that, I won’t give away my sources.”
