Program
What is taught and how it is taught. While there is some local latitude on the curricu. lum, the current program is heavily determined by highly publicized State Standards of Learning (SOLs) and associated assessment tests. The SOLs specify what will be taught and when different aspects will be taught in the core curriculum areas of English, Math, Social Studies, Computer Concepts and Science. The SOL test results will be used to judge the system’s accreditation in coming years. Students will not be allowed to graduate if they have not passed these tests. Hence the SOLs are a high stakes undertaking for everyone involved with the school system.
