Shortly after 2 p.m. on July 1, the Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office received a call that smoke was coming from a building on Middle Street owned by The Inn at Little Washington. Upon investigation, it was determined that something in the basement was on fire.
With no fire companies readily available, Deputy Gary Jenkins and Major Chris Williams from the Sheriff’s Office, both trained firefighters, responed to the blaze. Deputy Jenkins drove a fire truck over from the Washington Fire Hall. Major Williams then proceeded to put on firefighting gear, go
