Arriving at the Bear residence on Fodder stack Road, you might be greeted by Angus, a black lab puppy. W.F. “Yogi” Bear, Jr. is serving as a foster parent for this canine for the next year as part of the US Customs “Super Sniffer” breeding program. One thing is certain: Angus will sniff and lick your hand when you go to pet him.
Bear is one of four candidates looking to replace Mike Massie as Hampton District Supervisor. Yogi and his wife Settled in for good last year at Sundance Farm after commuting back-and-forth on days off between here and Chicago, where he worked for United Airlines, since the early 80s.
Bear retired from United after over 32 years of service. He served the last ten as a contract negotiator representing 26,000 employees. He was also a grievance committee chairman and district auditor for a local union in Chicago, responsible for a 2.5 million dollar annual budget. He says that this experience can be put to good use as a supervisor.
Born and raised on an Illinois dairy farm, Bear served in the US Navy from 1961 until 1967 where he served aboard aircraft carriers. He went to United after his service ended because he
