funds to the 1999-2000 budget; $79,951 for roof repairs and capital projects; $10,000 for 1999-2000 cafeteria start-up operations; and the undesignated revenue surplus balance of $140,887.59 to be held by the Board of Supervisors in a capital account for roof/building improvement projects between the 19992000 and 2000-2001 years.
The School Board voted to accept the Superintendent’s end of fiscal year reports and recommendations, and will forward these to the Board of Supervisors for their review and decision.
Bid openings
delayed
Dr. Gangel noted that the scheduled bid opening for athletic field improvements had been delayed due to late receipt of soils survey reports, and would be conducted on July 13 in lieu of June 30, 1999. The RCHS expansion bid opening will be held, as scheduled, bn July 7, 1999, at 2 p.m. in the School Board offices.
Eighth grade
reorganization
slated
Dr. Gangel presented a preliminary approach to the reorganization of the eighth grade. To assure successful integration of eighth graders into the high school environment and to ensure that they succeed as the first class required to fulfill Commonwealth Standards of Learning requirements, school administration believes that the eighth grade needs extraordinary care.
Because it is not possible now to establish a middle school, Gangel said, he is proposing that the class be set up in an eighth grade pod, with an instructional team, their own bell and lunch schedule, and a dedicated location within the high school plant. The School Board agreed with the reorganization concept, and the reorganization will undergo further development this summer.
