She says “I will have a little retail in here that appeals to me personally. The look will be different seasonally. I have a flower business, Out of Hand. I do flowers because I love to do flowers. I will display and sell dried floral arrangements that are really high quality and really beautiful.”
And there are plans for the downstairs.
Mrs. McCarthy says, “The downstairs will be open with a clubby atmosphere and paisley wallpaper and mystery books. I want it to be comfortable in this building, so people want to come and talk. No one will be following them around. If they ^have questions, I’ll be available for them. I want it to be engaging and comfortable and homey, so that they’ll want to take something home with them. I have names in my mind for sections of the shop, such as Blanch, for the area with linens and puffy velvet roses and fresh potpourri smells.”
As an interior designer, Mrs. McCarthy would go anywhere and everywhere clients needed her.
But now, she explains, “I want to be in one spot. I’ll interior design only if they make me.”
