Because ot the large and varied number of topics with which a board member must be familiar, training for members is ongoing. This training takes place in seminars and workshops conducted by the Virginia School Board Association, through local board one-day training sessions and programs on topics such as Effective Schools sponsored by the Greve or Headwaters Foundations.
At any given time, the board is studying several areas for the future. Several representative topics which the board is considering at this time include:
International
Baccalaureate (IB)
for the high school
This is an internationally recognized program with very high standards of academic achievement. IB has been traditionally thought of as a college prep program. Our board is exploring ways in which some of the aspects the program, particularly logical and critical thinking and public speaking may be provided to all of our students in order to
