At the March meeting of the Washington Tbwn Council, Council member Charlie Tompkins raised the specter of a budget battle when he questioned the Treasurer's compensation, and suggested that it and council member honoraria be reviewed in the upcoming budget process.
At the present time, Tbwn Council members receive a $5 payment for attendance at council meetings, and are not compensated for any other council work performed. The $5 payment, Mr. Tompkins said, “is irrelevant,” and it would be fair, he continued, to “pay council members the $5 for all meetings—council and committees and other meetings attended for town business.”
Mr. Tbmpkins said that he felt that the Treasurer’s salary was “way out of proportion—it is based on the assumption of $20 per hour for 10 hours per week,” and he added that he did not feel that Treasurer Elaine Viguerie spend that much time on town affairs.
