The R.C.H.S. spring sports are getting underway this week. Since we have had sensational weather the last two weeks, many students athletes have been practicing to get ready for their sport. The boys and girls soccer teams had great turnouts for tryouts.
Both teams will be coached by new coaches this year, the boys will be coached by Paul Paratore, and the new girls coach will be Kari Grey. Sixth grade teacher Lucy Maeyer will be helping with the girls soccer team also.
The girls softball teams also had a great turnout for tryouts. Susan Payne will be the Varsity head coach, assisted by John Smythe and Carl Payne. Rhonda Jenkins will return as the J.V. head coach, assisted by Joann Tracy and Sherron Boddie.
The girls teams have been practicing at Stuart Field in Amissville because of the construction at the high school. All home games will also be played there this season.
The season opener is Wednesday against Page, the Varsity team will play at home and the J.V. will travel to Page. Each one of the coaches are looking for a great season.
The boys baseball teams will also be in action this week with Page County. They got a slow start to their practices because the boys basketball team made it to the fegionals.
The Varsity will be coached by Donn Hackney, and the J.V. head coach will be Anthony Conti. Coach Hackney and Coach Conti are also looking for an exciting season.
