For all of my love of the South and its symbols, I do not think the battle flag should fly over government buildings, if for no other reason than that it draws it into controversy. For whatever reason, it is unnecessarily divisive. The flag deserves better.
Those who blindly misconstrue history and insist that any display of Southern heritage is racist must recognize that such a view is narrow and wrong headed. And Southerners of good will, black and white, must recognize that the media loves the fightand that the more the opposition insists that the flag is a racist symbol of slavery, the more its supporters will defend their prideful feelings of respect for it. The only winners in that fight are lazy journalists and pandering politicos. We should all get together, compromise, and create a new flag of Southern unity that all can display with genuine affection. I know. I know. People in hell want ice water, too.
So there it is about flags. My Old Glory has been stolen. It flew over the Capitol of the United States. I want to let whoever took it to know that what you have done will create very bad Kharma. If the law doesn’t get you, the good Lord will. And you’d better hope that they get you before I do. ,
