Since its inaugural run in the dim recesses of recorded time, the Fodderstack has become a high point in the local calendar of events. Both longtime local runners, Rappahannock wannabes and the odd dedicated runner (no offense intended but, I mean, really) travel to Rappahannock for what is often the first great day of spring.
.Our legal team (actually t^p County Attorney, in an offhand remark over lunch) has advised us that a guarantee of great weather would be injudicious, not to mention potentially actionable in the event of error, so we will simply add that there has been only one rainy Fodderstack in the last twelve years. After the last two years of drought, we figure that we got our spring rainfall on March 8 between 12:15 and 12:17 p.m. anyway.
Bus service begins from Washington to Flint Hill at approximately 8:45 a.m. Registration in Flint Hill at the Volunteer Fire Department Fairgrounds starts at 8:30 a.m. and runs until 9:30 in time for the race’s start at 10. Pre-registration (postmarked by April 8) is $17, and is $20 the day of the race.
