A survey conducted by the Amissville Area Community Association (AACA) and presented at the August meeting of the Rappahannock County Planning Commission indicated that the most important issue to the respondents was "preserving the historical, rural, and natural beauty of Amissville." This public opinion survey, conducted between February and July of 2000, was one of the preliminary steps in AACA’s process of preparing a Jackson District "annex" to the County's Comprehensive Plan.
Survey developer and AACA Secretary Hal Hunter noted that survey results were based upon responses from 267 Amissville-area residents (residents of the 20106 Zip Code area), 232 of whom (approximately 25 percent of Jackson District adults) are Rappahannock County residents, and the balance of whom live in the Wildwood section of Culpeper.
The survey instrument included a series of questions in which respondents were asked to rate the importance of various issues on a ten point scale. The four issues rated most important was the "preservation" issue, noted above, that was ranked number 1 and received a score of 9.37 out of 10; number 2 was "retaining local farms and farm land" and scored 8.93; number 3 was "managing the rate of growth and development" with a score of 8.36; and number 4 was "developing a sense of community" with a score of 8.06.
