A retired judge here in the county told me recently there are three important things to look at when considering George Bush for President — his record, his record, his record.
If you were to take the campaign rhetoric at face value, you might believe that George W. Bush is the "Education Candidate." I took a look at the record of Governor Bush in Texas, where for the last five years he has been governor of this wealthy, oil rich state.
What I found did not correlate to Mr. Bush's statement that he has "... worked to strengthen families, improve public schools, and increase access to quality health care so no child is left behind." The record shows:
• If Texas were a country, it would have the world's 13th largest economy.
• There is no personal income tax in Texaswhich is great for those with high incomes.
• The Texas sales tax is 8.25 percent- which obviously is painful for low income Texans.
• Texas teacher's salaries and benefits are 50th in the nation.
