Waiting patiently for the true fruits of summer to arrive, we checked our tomatoes daily, looking for the slightest bit of color. These 50/60 degree nights are wonderful for lettuces, greens, swiss chard and sleeping, but the tomatoes were not happy nor the eggplants, peppers or basil.

The vines were heavy with big, beautiful, green tomatoes just waiting for a sign of heat. During two weeks of afternoon "monsoon" like storms, the tomato steaks started snapping and breaking because of the heavy weight from the tomatoes. Now all of the tomatoes are ripe and in full bounty.
